Claude MONET (1840-1926). - Lot 43
Claude MONET (1840-1926). L.A.S., Étretat Oct. 27, 1885, to Camille Pissarro; 3 pages in-8°, headed Hôtel Blanquet, Étretat. Beautiful letter from Étretat to Pissarro. He had wanted to write to him for a long time, "but you know how it is, always being out working, you're tired in the evening and a bit lazy to write. I thought I wouldn't stay here as long, but I'm so short of time that it's the devil to finish anything. No matter how many times I've had canvases put up for all weathers, I can't finish one, between the changing tides and the boats that are never in the same place. In short, I still see myself here for some time, if I want to make the most of my trip, and I won't be with you for the next dinners. I apologize to my friends for this, and send them my regards. And you, what are you doing, and Renoir, Cézanne, Sisley and Durand[-Ruel] on business, or all among yourselves?"... Provenance: Archives of Camille Pissarro (sale November 21, 1975, no. 118).
