Large chest of drawers in rosewood quartefeuille in frames of wire or crimp of the same species. Slightly sinuous in shape, it opens with two large drawers with crossbars and rests on arched legs. Ornamentation of chiselled and gilded rocaille bronzes, some of them stamped with a crowned "C", such as scraps, hooves, draw knobs and lock escutcheons (some of them added). Bears the inventory number of its delivery to the Garde-Meuble royal in 1748: "du n° 1470/8". Louis XV period. (Restoration of use, gilding resumed). Moulded Ardennes red marble top. H: 86 - W: 147 - D: 70 cm Of perfectly balanced composition, this chest of drawers, which corresponds to the first delivery of the cabinetmaker Gilles Joubert to the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne, was originally part of a delivery of eight chests of drawers of similar or even identical model. Thus, on June 22, 1748, the Journal du Garde-meuble noted under number 1470 the delivery "by the S. Joubert pour Compiegne" of: "eight chest of drawers made of veneered palissing wood, with a Rance marble top, with 2 large drawers with locks on the front, with entries for locks, knobs and coloured bronze feet, 4 feet long ½ on 2 feet deep and 32 inches high" (Archives nationales, Maison du Roi, O/1/3314). The addressees of these eight pieces of furniture are mentioned after this description. Seven of them were delivered for important apartments in the Royal Castle of Compiègne: one for the Cabinet of Monsieur le Dauphin Louis de France (1729-1765), one for the bedroom of Madame Henriette (1727-1752), one for the bedroom of Madame Adélaïde (1732-1800), two for the bedroom and Grand Cabinet of Madame Victoire (1733-1799) and two for the Grand Cabinet of the Marquise de Pompadour, favourite of Louis XV (1721- 1764); finally, the eighth and last chest of drawers was delivered for the son of the Controller General of Crown Furniture, Gaspard-Moïse-Augustin de Fontanieu (1694-1767) in Madrid, includi
