Beautiful sword of present, guard entirely... - Lot 219 - Thierry de Maigret
Beautiful sword of present, guard entirely in vermeil, model of Manceaux in Paris, keyboard decorated with applied motifs: the arms of France, below two lions lying facing each other and, on each side, a renown holding the royal crown, in the corners a fleur-de-lis and a hand of justice each contained in laurel wreaths, counter-keyboard absent, branch carved with foliage, laurels and palms and adorned at its base with a ram's head, round pommel decorated with foliage en suite, carved rocket, on each side, with a trophy of arms on a shield surrounded by foliage; blade of particular shape, hollowed out on each side, engraved along its entire length with etchings of trophies and golden foliage separated by stars and, on the front, it bears the inscription: "HENRI DE FRANCE - TO MR LE LT GÉNL BON VINCENT"; length 96 cm. (Highly oxidized blade tip; broken counter-keyboard; no sheath). Restoration Period. Quite good condition. The punches and signature of MANCEAUX were probably on the counter-keyboard. Henri de France: This is probably the Duke of Bordeaux, son of the Duke and Duchess of Berry, born on 29 September 1820, better known as the Comte de Chambord, † in Austria on 24 August 1883. Grandson of King Charles X, head and last representative of the eldest and last representative of the French branch of the Maison des Bourbons, he was a candidate for the crown of France in 1844 on the death of Charles X, under the name of Henri V. Lieutenant-General Baron VINCENT: this could be Nicolas Charles de VINCENT, born in 1757 in Florence, † on 7 October 1834 in Nancy, general and diplomat from Lorraine, close to the royal family (Louis XVIII then Charles X), or Henry Catherine Balthazard VINCENT, born on 22 May 1775 in Valencienne, † in Paris on 24 December 1844, French general of the Revolution and the Empire, lieutenant general in 1825 following the Spanish expedition.
