Very rare junior officer's saber of the horse grenadiers of the Consuls' guard, having belonged to Bourde Auguste or Blancard Amable Guy. Made by Manufacture d'armes blanches de Klingenthal. The three side arms and that of the counterguard are decorated with leafy rosettes and are joined to the main arm by a rooster's head; eagle-head-shaped quillon; octagonal pommel, chased with a palmette and, at the top, seven five-pointed stars; lion's head-shaped cap nail; watermarked, chagrin-covered fuse. Damascus rush blade, with full-length side groove and counter-edge, finished in carp tongue, engraved in thirds etching, with gold ground, on one side, with lictor beams and a shield marked: "Garde des Consuls - Grenadiers à cheval" and, on the other, a trophy surmounted by a palm tree and an oval cartouche monogrammed: "B A", the "A" is imbricated, in the middle, in the "B"; the back is signed: "Manufacture de Klingenthal Coulaux frères". Chagrin-covered wooden scabbard with two large brass fittings, chased and gilded, with geometric decoration and trophies; the bolt is in two parts and ends in godrons forming a lictor's beam; the wrought-iron dart (slightly oxidized, with traces of bluing) rests against a lion's paw and is embellished with a rosette; length 113 cm. It is presented with a junior officer's lanyard and two white buffalo clasps, with their brass buckles adorned with fleurons. Consulate period. Very good condition.
