Sabretache worn by Squadron Leader Félix Aimé Lasnon of the - Lot 203
Sabretache worn by Squadron Leader Félix Aimé Lasnon of the Imperial Guard Horse Artillery Regiment: Red leather plate, cut out in the lower part in the form of a brace, bordered around the edge with a red morocco bead, sewn saddle-stitched on the border, covered with scarlet cloth and adorned in the center with a crowned eagle holding lightning bolts in its talons, resting on two crossed cannons; the whole in gilded silver thread, cannetille, sequins and gold lamé, the eagle's eye represented by a black pearl; on either side, an oak branch is embroidered on the left and a laurel branch on the right, also in gold piping and sequins; a wide braid of gold passementerie, woven in the "baton" pattern for the imperial guard, is sewn onto the outer edge, width 35 mm, bordered on the inside by a cord of gold thread. The inside pocket is in red morocco, also cut into a brace at the bottom, and lined with beige fabric. Top fitted with three gilded brass half-spherical rings. Total height 34.5 cm, without rings, width 31 cm. Late First Empire period. Very good condition. PROVENANCE: LASNON family descendants, then Bertrand MALVAUX collection. An old photo of the LASNON collection and a Bertrand MALVAUX card reproducing this sabretache are attached. This piece is extremely rare, with five known examples, each with minor variations: - That of General Jean Jacques DESVAUX de SAINT-MAURICE, more richly embroidered, complete with belt and coarse-twisted bangs, top embellished with two stars indicating his rank of general. It is preserved in the Moscow Historical Museum. - Two examples are in the collections of the Musée de l'Armée, with minor differences in embroidery. - One is in private hands, in the former LÉVY collection.
