Normandie regiment (18th army regiment in 1791 and 27th dragoon regiment in An XI); was present at the Nancy affair in 1790; served in the North and Rhine armies from 1792 to An V; became brigadier on Frimaire 29, An II; fourrier on the following Messidor 26; then maréchal des logis on Prairial 1, An III; wounded by a cannonball to the left foot at the Manheim affair on Vendémiaire 25, An IV; distinguished himself on 9 vendémiaire an V at the Ravensburg affair in Swabia, where he was hit by five saber blows to the head, one shot to the chest, two saber blows to the left arm, two more to the right hand and four to the back, and was left for dead on the battlefield, falling to the enemy. Returned by exchange some time later and promoted to chief maréchal des logis on Germinal 12 of the same year, he fought in the armies of Helvetia, Italy and Grisons during the wars of An VI to An IX, and obtained the ranks of adjutant and second lieutenant on Germinal 1 and Floréal 1, An VII. Awarded a sabre d'honneur by decree of 4 pluviôse, an XI, and appointed lieutenant on the following 21 fructidor; while at camp in Bayonne, JEANSON was awarded the cross of Officer of the Legion of Honor on 27 prairial, an XII, in Versailles, where the regiment was garrisoned. Attached to the cavalry reserve of the Grande Armée, during the campaigns from An XIV to 1807, in Austria, Prussia and Poland, he was present at the battles of Austerlitz and Jéna; distinguished himself on December 23, 1806 at the Battle of Biezunn, where he led the elite 25th Dragoons in routing an entire squadron of Hussars, killing the commander and wounding three officers, and himself receiving three saber blows, two to the right arm and one to the right side; Appointed captain on March 3, 1807, he took part in the battle of Friedland on June 14, and on the following July 8 was transferred to the Imperial Guard dragoons, with the rank of lieutenant first; but this latter appointment having been considered null and void, due to the numerous wounds which made him fit for active service in the Guard cavalry, he resumed command of his company in the 27th dragoons on November 21, 1808, without however being able to follow the regiment during the last campaigns of the Empire. Retired on January 26, 1816 as Captain of the 6th Dragoons, he retired first to Valencienne, then to Saint-Dizier in Haute-Marne, where he still lives (1848).
