Rare pair of officer's or non-commissioned officer's flintlo - Lot 150
Rare pair of officer's or non-commissioned officer's flintlock pommel pistols for mamelucks of the imperial guard: They are built on the same model as the troop pistols, but with more attention to detail. Blued steel barrels, with a band at the top, decorated with gold edging at the barrels and muzzles, as well as around the sights, hallmarked on the left sides: "J" and "F" in an oval with gold background (Inspectors Jacquesson, 1809 and Lefebvre) and the mark: "R. F", lock side, caliber 12.2 mm smooth; lock model an IX, hallmarked: "G" spangled in a rectangle (Germain controller, from 1812) and signed: "MRE IMPLE DE VERSAILLES"; brass trimmings, cut out, caps without rings; selected walnut stocks, veined, with short shafts, hallmarked at the rear of the breech shanks (unidentified hallmark, perhaps an English "V"); brass-tipped brass ramrods; length 34 cm. (One very oxidized breech end). First Empire period, circa 1812/1813. Very good condition. This pair of pistols is described in Jean BOUDRIOT, Paris 1965, cahier n° 12, page 28 and plate XI. PROVENANCE: LAISSUS collection, Thierry de MAIGRET sale, Hôtel Drouot, November 8, 2013, then Gilbert PUTTERIE private collection. BOUTET Nicolas Noël, born 1761 † in 1833, famous director of the Versailles factory, from year II to 1818; he worked mainly on weapons of reward, weapons of honor and luxury weapons, both bladed and firearms; these have achieved worldwide renown, thanks to their quality of execution and the originality of their models. He had a manufacturing depot in Paris, 1236 rue de la Loi (rue de Richelieu) in Year XI, then 87 rue de Richelieu in 1807; in 1823, as a private harquebusier, he was found at 23 rue des Filles Saint-Thomas, where he worked until 1831. He had a son, Pierre Nicolas, born in 1786 † in 1816, which sometimes explains the inscription: "BOUTET et fils".
