Silver and gilt silver (925) spice box. PARIS, ap. 1838 (Minerve). Oval, compartmentalized and fitted with two hinged lids, it stands on four legs terminating in animal paws with leafy attachments. Guilloché decoration, with a frieze of palmettes around the edge. Two medallions engraved on the lids and monogrammed CM. In the center is a metal nutmeg scoop topped by a burst fruit-shaped knob. The underside is surrounded by a frieze of leafy chevrons and centered by a poly-lobed medallion with palmettes engraved CARTIER / B. DES ITALIENS / 9. Worn gilding, rusty rasp.
