*National award saber by Boutet, artist director of the Manu - Lot 190
*National award saber by Boutet, artist director of the Manufacture de Versailles, gray iron hilt, nicely carved and engraved straight limb, with an openwork return on the part connecting to the cap, the whole engraved with fillets, asymmetrical aurillons, oval button-shaped quillon, squared ebony spindle; wide blade, gilded and blued on one third, with one hollow side, flat back and double-edged on the last third, ending in a carp tongue, decorated with trophies and foliage, back signed : "Klingenthal"; length 95.5 cm. (Without scabbard; hilt cleaned). These sabers are often signed and attributed on the upper part of the scabbard, which explains why there is no signature on the hilt. Directoire, Consulate period. Good to very good condition. In Bottet's La Manufacture d'armes de Versailles, Boutet Directeur Artiste, Paris, 1903, the plates show several sabers with very similar guards: N° IX (much more luxurious), N° XI and N° XII.
