Pierre LAGÉNIE (1938-2020) - Lot 1
Pierre LAGÉNIE (1938-2020) Ceres. High relief in plaster. 1st Prize from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de which enabled him to enter the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris - 1956-1957. Height 115 cm - Width 160 cm (Dust). PIERRE LAGÉNIE (1938-2020) Sculpture is a multi-faceted art form, and Pierre Lagénie explored all its avenues throughout his illustrious career. He tirelessly drew, worked in clay and plaster, hammered stone and marble, and carved wood. He is also a modeler, chiseller, molder and even a foundryman in his beautiful Saint-Maur-des- Fossés, where he installed an incredible foundry from another era. While Lagénie took a few side roads into animal sculpture, and mastered the sensitive art of portraiture with talent, he was above all passionate about the human figure. And so, throughout his life, he defended a certain figurative art that ran counter to the aesthetic upheavals of the post-war years and May 68. A pupil of Marcel Gimond at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, after studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux, his long career has revolved around, as he so aptly puts it, "...sculptures that build on each other and create a common thread that tells a story". A relentless worker, he took part in the Salon des Artistes français, the Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Artistes du Val-de-Marne and the Salon de l'Orangerie du Petit Trianon in Versailles. With modesty, he received numerous awards, including the Prix Paul-Louis Weiller from the Institut de France, the Grand Prix and Médaille d'Honneur from the Salon des Artistes Français, and the Prix de la Fondation Taylor. For him, sculpture is a craft, and he does everything himself, humbly claiming the skills of a craftsman. An artist/craftsman capable of creating important monuments that embellish public spaces in Bordeaux, Melun, Saint- Maur-des-Fossés, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and many others. Maur-des-Fossés, Châteaulin or Saint-Amand-Les-Eaux. Altruistic and keen to pass on his invaluable expertise, he is involved with the Taylor Foundation and the Awards Committee at various trade shows and juries. Behind his beautiful, irreproachable technique, Lagénie's discreet, dignified talent Lagénie is to be discovered through the works that the Thierry de Maigret firm is honored to present, while thanking his family for the trust they have placed in him.
