CHINA - Lot 217
CHINA Porcelain "sorbet" miniature bowl with white ground and fine grisaille decoration of immortals climbing a mountain in a lacustrine landscape with pierced rocks, pine forest... On the reverse, Changhua six-character mark in a blue underglaze square. 18th-19th century. H : 4.8 cm Presented in an antique wooden box bearing a five-character signature. This mark is often found during the KANGXI reign. Ceramics from Bát Tràng, a village near Hanoi, have been famous since the 14th century for their quality and finesse. Made from local white clay, they feature balanced, varied shapes and a wide variety of glazes, from creamy white to cobalt blue. The artistic style blends tradition and symbolism, with hand-painted motifs depicting dragons, phoenixes, lotus flowers or rural scenes. These temple pieces were often inscribed with the names of the donors, the place for which they were intended, their geographical location or the date they were made, and sometimes also the name of the potter.
