Water Games" tapestry attributed to the workshop of - Lot 267
Water Games" tapestry attributed to the workshop of Hendrick II Reydams and David II Leyniers. Wool and silk, good condition, minor wear, lined. A couple stands before three fountains, an embroidered parterre and architectural elements. Brussels, South Netherlands, early 18th century. H : 296 - W : 316 cm In the 18th century, Brussels workshops continued to weave scenes of parks and gardens, and Hendrick II Reydams' workshop was renowned for weaving subjects depicting mythological divinities in this setting, an imaginary Arcadia. From 1712, he joined forces with his cousin Daniel II Leyniers. The probable source of the drawing and cardboard is Lucas Achtschellinck and Augustin Coppens, two artists who often supplied this type of scene. Bibliography : - J.
