I am happy that you are in good health and that Monsieur Pierre Fenaille is a father for a second time. As for me, I was astonished by the earthquake, and when I tried to figure it out, it was over. The Rome you know is very beautiful, were it not for the haunting thoughts of this scourge of war. I shall be happy to see you again with greater hope, and perhaps completely at peace in your château [Montal] where life is so good and where there are so many fond memories"...
