Eugène BOUDIN (1824-1898). - Lot 25
Eugène BOUDIN (1824-1898). L.A.S. "E. Bou", Honfleur January 20, 1862, to painter Constant Troyon; 2 pages in-8°. Request for employment to cope with his financial difficulties. Boudin worries about the health of his correspondent, whom he regrets not having seen last summer: "Wouldn't the seaside suit your temperament? He complains of "our misfortune among such indifferent fellow-citizens", and tells him of his need to go to Paris: "I would very much like to spend a few more months in Paris this year, so as not to lose the few relations I made there last year, but everyone agrees in painting such a gloomy picture of the situation that I hesitate to leave, despite the precarious state of our poor affairs here". He asks Troyon if he might have some work that would enable him "to employ myself in preparing some sketches for you [...], this prospect of assured work for some time might enable me to seek to create some other resource for myself [...] if however you have the use of my arms for some work"... He thanks him effusively for his mediation with Mr. Marade, whom he asks to thank "for having so eagerly seized the opportunity to be agreeable to me"...
