Rare senior officer's saber of the chasseurs à cheval de la garde des Consuls, chased and gilded brass German-style hilt, branch decorated with a full-height foliage stem, crosspiece decorated with vertical striations extending over the two large straight auricles, chased at the ends with the same foliage as on the branch and, in the middle, of a fleuron in a circle, straight quillon, German-style cap decorated around the rim with palmettes and, on the top, with a trophy of arms in a laurel wreath, cap tail chased with a lictor beam surrounded by foliage, spindle covered with chagrin held in place by two small gilded nails with fleuron-shaped heads; curved damascus blade, round back with lateral groove along the back and counter-edge; chagrin-covered wooden scabbard, four chased and gilded double-sided brass fittings, cap adorned with foliage and fluting, the two bracelets with trophies of arms within a laurel wreath, chased buckler with foliage, fluting and, in the middle, a trophy of arms en suite, cut-out iron sting; length 99.5 cm. (Trace of decoration on the blade; minor dents on the bolt). Consulate period. Very good condition. This model is very rare, especially in good condition and having retained the lictor beam on the cap. This model differs from the classic hussar officer's sabers with German-style guard by the presence of the lictor beam and the fact that all parts are in cast and chased brass, whereas on classic hussar models, the scabbard fittings and caps are in stamped or embossed brass plate.
