Fragment of the tapestry "Verdure à la pagode et au carquois - Lot 291
Fragment of the tapestry "Verdure à la pagode et au carquois". Manufacture d'Aubusson, Rougeron workshop, in the Pillement style, 18th century. H : 2.30 - W : 2.90 m This fragment can be compared with the tapestry in the former Chevalier collection, the one in the Hôtel Dieu museum and the Donjon de Niort museum. This borderless fragment illustrates the infatuation with exoticism, and in particular with China, associated with the famous Chinese tapestries of Beauvais and Aubusson. This drawing comes from the engraving of the Sinkicien Chinese temple that illustrates Nieuhof's book published in 1665. Pillement's authorship remains a matter of debate. Bibliography : P. Bertrand. P. and D. Chevalier, Les tapisseries d'Aubusson et de Felletin, 1988, p. 128.
