Beautiful hunting dagger, chased, gilded and silvered brass hilt decorated with foliage and scrolls, straight crosspiece with two inverted quillons, small chased and pierced ring on the front, all-chased, gilded and silvered brass handle, decorated with scrolls and, towards the pommel, on one side, with a grotesque man's profile; straight, flat-backed blade, engraved at the heel and in the hollows with common animals, dogs, wild boars (partly obliterated); metal scabbard covered in grey shagreen, with two brass fittings, chased and gilded en suite, and fitted with two cofferdams: a two-pronged fork and a small knife, both with chased gilded brass handles ending in a lion's head. 18th century. Length 72.5 cm. (The wooden core of the scabbard was probably replaced by an iron scabbard at a later date, good condition).
