"Charles IX, whose features are already decomposed by the approach of death, hesitates, tormented by the future of France, to hand over the regency deed to his mother, Catherine de Médicis; while crumpling it in his hand, he shows the fatal window of the Louvre to the queen, who speaks to him of the interests of religion".
