Jean François Prévost comte de la Boutelière was a cavalry captain in the Orleans regiment, and a knight of Saint Louis. The family emigrated to Coblentz during the French Revolution, attempted to join the Vendée and Charrette, before taking refuge in England. Jean François Prévost married Adélaïde de la Fare in 1781. Cardinal Anne Louis Henri de la Fare, brother of Adélaide Prévost, was bishop of Nancy. Appointed minister under Louis XVIII, chaplain to the Duchesse d'Angoulême and peer of France, he later became Archbishop of Sens.
