[GALLIFFET (Général Gaston de)]. - Lot 9

[GALLIFFET (Général Gaston de)]. Correspondence addressed to the Marquise and Marquis de L'Aigle, containing a dozen letters dated from 1890 to 1906. General de Galliffet (1831-1909) expands on various subjects, including worldly, political and military affairs. In particular, he mentions General Boulanger: "Sur ce je prie Dieu que Boulanger ne vous roule pas dans la farine" ("On this note, I pray to God that Boulanger does not roll you in flour"). Note the presence of a l.a.s. dated January 11, 1875, addressed to General Desvaux, in which Galliffet defends himself against the "accusations" and "shameful calumnies" he was subjected to. Provenance: "bought in August 1906 from M. Charavay". Attached a L.A.S. from Bonapartist journalist and deputy Paul de CASSAGNAC, addressed to the Marquis de L'Aigle, (March 16, 1896).
