JAPON, fours d'ARITA, style Kakiemon - Lot 89
JAPON, fours d'ARITA, style Kakiemon Polylobed porcelain dish decorated in polychrome enamel overglaze with a flowering hedge from which emerge two prunus branches with two phoenixes on a white "nigoshide" (milk-white) ground. 17th century, circa 1670-1690. D : 24.5 cm This gadrooned form was copied from the white-glazed Dutch Delft earthenware productions that must have served as models. These were themselves inspired by late 16th-century Italian faience from Faenza, or by Dutch or German metal prototypes. A dish of the same shape, decorated in the Kakiemon style with small flowers alternating with birds, is at the Kyushu Ceramic Museum (Japan), reproduced on page 57, plate 64 of the Kyushu Ceramic Museum collection catalog.
