JAPON, fours d'ARITA - Lot 84
JAPON, fours d'ARITA Rare large ribbed porcelain bowl decorated in polychrome enamel over glaze in iron red, green and violet in the Imari style with flowering branches on the inside surrounding a chrysanthemum, and on the outside with a hedge topped by a bamboo trellis from which flowering branches emerge. Former collection of Auguste le Fort, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland. Bears the incised mark on the reverse N Z 0, inventory mark of the Dresden Palace. 18th century, circa 1700-1720. D : 23.5 cm 1000/1500 A very similar bowl of the same size is in the Kyushu Ceramic Museum (Shibata collection, reproduced in Volume V page 142, plate 197). Despite the absence of blue underglaze, this color palette is assimilated to Imari decoration. Same white-glazed form in the Shibata collection of the Kyushu Ceramic Museum, reproduced in volume V page 95 plate 118 with a date. This model also exists in Japan in the Kakiemon palette. It was also copied in Meissen around 1728-1730.
