CHINE de COMMANDE - Lot 516
CHINE de COMMANDE
Very rare circular porcelain plate decorated in yellow, turquoise and iron-red enamels with two bellringers, one playing a horn, the other a trumpet, on a black "lacquered" background. The wing features quatrefoil and diamond motifs in reserve on a black background enhanced with gilding.
18th century, circa 1740.
D : 23 cm
This rare model has even been attributed - perhaps wrongly - to Cornelis Pronk, without any proof. The technique used to produce this monochrome black background is the same as for lacquer, with the superimposition of multiple layers.
Similar model Musée Boymans - Van Beuningen, Rotterdam.
