SUCRIER OR SAUCIERE AND ITS PRESENTOIR in silver (950). Paris, attr. to Pierre VALLIERES (received master in 1776), 1789. It consists of a quadripod oval support bordered by an openwork gallery of scrolls and pearled friezes. The body rests on a ram-leg base. It is encircled by an entablature engraved with laurel scrolls and palm leaves with ribbon bows. Two antique-style busts of women form the handles on the short sides. The lid is edged with a laurel frieze. It is engraved with alternating stylized flowers and palmettes. It is topped by a wolf-shaped grip sitting on a flat terrace bordered with gadroons. A few scratches and minor knocks. H. 30 cm ; L. (support) 22 cm ; Wt 1391 g.
