Maurice DENIS (Granville 1870 Paris 1943) Crouching Martha, study for Armide Charcoal 49,5 x 32,5 cm Monogrammed lower left MAU.D Martha, the painter's wife, is a recurring model in his works. Our study of a woman has been used for the character of character of Armide caring for Renaud in the painting The Garden of Armide, which was painted in Florence in 1907 (now in the Fujiya Hotel, Hakone, Japan). A certificate from Claire Denis dated March 17, 1999 accompanies the work.
