PARIS, Manufacture de NAST
Exceptional barometer-thermometer plate in porcelain, marked thermometer according to Réaumur with the degrees and the inscription Nast à Paris in a gilded frame treated in light relief with the gold wheel of acanthus leaves surmounted by a shell and foliage treated in scroll. Early 19th century, circa 1810 (a hair visible at the top) H (barometer) : 47 cm One of the rare porcelain barometers known today. It is listed in Régine Plinval de Guillebon's book, Porcelaines et faïences de Paris. The Manufacture de porcelaines de NAST was one of the most brilliant Parisian manufactures of the end of the XVIIIth century but also under the First Empire and the Restoration. Jean Népomucène Hermann developed a technique of laying gold with a wheel that replaced the use of golden bronzes that were previously mounted on porcelain, this novelty was patented in 1810. His creations had a success beyond the Courts of Europe. When he won a second gold medal at the Salon, Louis XVIII came to give him special encouragement. When he passed away in 1817, his two sons took over and, like him, knew how to surround themselves with the best painters and modelers. We are pleased to present a set of porcelains from this prestigious factory, including the famous cup with the beautiful ironwork and the rare barometer-thermometer, both listed in Regine de Plinval de Guillebon's book on the porcelains and earthenware of Paris.
