CHINE - Lot 215
CHINE Important pair of porcelain vases of baluster form with a grey cracked celadon background of Guan type, the openwork handles representing kilins. Early QIANLONG period (1736-1795) (one handle restored). They were adapted in France during the Louis XV period with chased and gilded bronze mounts with openwork scroll patterned necks framed with shells, and at the base with friezes of oves and pebbled bottoms surrounded by shells framed with foliage scrolls around 1755/1760. As a reminder, this grey cracked celadon known as Guan was part of the Chinese Imperial style as early as the SONG dynasty (960-1278). Augustus The Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland (1670-1733), had several crackled celadons of this type in his collection at the Dresden Palace. These grey crackled vases were particularly popular in France in the 18th century and were fitted with gilt-bronze mounts by merchant dealers. A similar vase sold on November 13, 2018 by Sotheby's, "Excellence Sale", page 102 and 103 of the catalog. H: 43 cm
