Short carpet, with decoration of central flowered medallion - Lot 207
Short carpet, with decoration of central flowered medallion surrounded by large scrolls, laurel leaves and garlands of flowers, circa 1810, Empire period, attributed to Louis de La Hamayde de St Ange, probably made by the Aubusson factory such as Sallandrouze de Lamornaix or the factory Piat Lefebvre in Tournai. Provenance: Château du Marais, from the Talleyrand-Périgord family, Pourtalès, and also Dorothée de Dino at the Château de Rochecotte. The design is attributed to Louis de La Hamayde de St Ange, architect and promoter of the imperial revival, because it is a direct result of the projects for the Crown's furniture repository and it is known that St Ange regularly collaborated with the two manufacturers mentioned above who shared the market to meet the orders of the furniture repository. The carpets made according to the technique of the tapestry contrary to the "point knotted" which forms a velvet developed at the end of the XVIIIth century. They were intended for rooms of apparat of lesser use. Comparable carpets can be found in the salon of Serres-Barriol in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (35.852), former collection Yves Mikaeloff, collection Seligmann and Dutasta.
