Strong sword or cavalry saber of Scottish type, broadsword, probably of the French gendarmerie, wrought iron basket guard, openwork, round pommel, wooden (worm-eaten) spindle; straight blade with a hollow front and a lateral groove along the back on two thirds, engraved, on one side: "Manufacture Royale d'Alsace" and, on the other: "Vive le Roy", length 87.5 cm; total length 103.5 cm. (Incomplete fuse in very bad condition; oxidized guard; without scabbard). Circa 1730/1750. Fairly good condition.
