Court sword, shakudo guard entirely pierced, burnished black with gold decoration of flowers, foliage, animals and friezes of gold pellets; blade with lenticular section, diamond-shaped at the heel, engraved and gilded in thirds with scrolls, animals, suns and a motto: "Peine innutile" (Unnecessary punishment) surmounted by an angel; scabbard covered with parchment, shakudo cap; length 93 cm. (Later parchment scabbard, missing the cap). Period, Japan for the guard, (Compagnie des Indes), Netherlands, second half of the 18th century. Good condition. PROVENANCE : former collection CORBIN, castle of C., then, by inheritance, collection BARJON. This sword has kept its label of the CORBIN collection, n° 142.
