Esponton point of one of the guards of the Italian princely - Lot 90
Esponton point of one of the guards of the Italian princely or imperial palaces of the First Empire, iron formed by a double axe surmounted by a point in the shape of a sage leaf, it bears a double-sided decoration, in silvered brass, reported; the central part of the double axe is provided with a silver-plated brass socket and, on both sides, a palmette; the central motifs of the socket are missing (probably a staff thunderbolt); the point is decorated with a large : "G" foliate, in the center of two horns of plenty from which branches of laurel emerge; height 40.5 cm. Fairly good condition. This type of esponton point is known, see the point of the same type, but decorated with the eagle, for the palaces of Napoleon 1st King of Italy, which is part of the collections of the Armeria Reale of Turin, reproduced in the collective work, published by BRAMANTE EDITRICE in 1981, photo n° 252
