Beautiful fancy saber of admiral model in the oriental spirit of the regulation of the 1st prairial year XII, guard with brass chain, finely engraved and gilded in strong relief of foliages and, in the middle, of an anchor in a round medallion, on the front, and of a rosette, at the back, handle, with two plates out of ebony, decorated with a pastille engraved of flowers and decorated on the circumference of a gilded brass band engraved of laurels, with the pommel it is bored of a hole to receive the strap; blade with strong camber, short, white polished, engraved on the half (pitting); wooden scabbard covered with chagrin, with metallic seam and three brass trimmings, chased, gilded of foliage and finished by a bead representing a rope, cap chased in a cartouche of Neptune sitting on a shell and holding a trident, cap button chased of a lion head; the intermediate trim is decorated with a large fleuron, the bouterolle is entirely decorated with foliage and ends with a shell-shaped stinger; length 72 cm. (Two repairs to the plates of the fuse; chain incomplete).
Restoration period. Good condition.
This sword, by family tradition, was carried by Rear Admiral ANGOT des ROTOURS, born on June 2, 1773 in Les Rotours, generality of Alençon; he died on March 26, 1844 in Brest, in Finistère. He was in service from 1791 to 1838.
Captain of a frigate in 1808; major of the 6th crew on the high seas, by decree of July 25 and 31, 1811; captain of a ship of the second class, by order of July 8, 1814, with rank of July 1, a rank confirmed during the Hundred Days by decree of May 19, 1815; he was a member of the maritime council of war, convened at Rochefort, at the beginning of 1817, to judge the commander of the frigate La Méduse; captain of a ship of the first class, February 1, 1822; rear-admiral, August 17, 1822

Hereditary Baron by letter patent, December 28, 1816. He was governor of Guadeloupe from February 28, 1826 to January 31, 1830.
