Standard of the 5th regiment of hussars model... - Lot 168 - Thierry de Maigret
Standard of the 5th regiment of hussars model 1812, in silk fabric, two layers sewn one on the other; tricolour, with three stripes: blue at the staff, white in the middle and red at the float; 50,5 x 60 cm, fringes in gold trimmings of 2,5 cm; the decorations are painted in gold: imperial crowns, eagles, "N" in a laurel wreath, bees, stars, palmettes and foliage; it is marked on one side: "EMPEROR NAPOLEON TO THE 5TH HUSSARDS REGIMENT" and, on the other side the names of the battles: "AUSTERLITZ - JENA - EYLAU - WAGRAM". It is presented with its tricolour silk tie, decorated with bees and palmettes, fringes in gold trimmings, and its cords with two tassels in gold trimmings. This standard is consistent with the 1812 model, the dimensions are slightly different: the originals were 55 x 55 cm and the decorations were embroidered. It was probably made in the 19th century for a hall of honor of the 5th regiment of hussars. No original is listed, they have probably been destroyed. Second half of the 19th century.
