Writing case by Clérembault, in red gilt morocco, hinges and silver metal lock; it is marked on the flap in gold letters: "MR DE CLÉREMBAULT CONSUL GÉNÉRAL DE S. M. L'EMPEREUR ET ROI"; inside lined with green morocco; 38 x 32,5 cm. (Wear; inkwells and key missing). First-Empire period. Fairly good condition. Louis François Marie, Count of CLÉREMBAULT, knight, lord of Penhouet, born in 1769, former officer in the royal artillery corps, knight of the royal and military order of Saint-Louis, emigrated in 1791 and did the campaigns of the army of Mgr the Prince of CONDÉ and the Duke of BOURBON. When he returned to France, he was appointed Consul General in Prussia, a job he accepted only to be useful to the legitimate cause; he married, in 1805, Aimée Désirée Sophie du COETLOSQUET
