Magnificent small flintlock shotgun of young man or woman of the Manufacture of Versailles: Barrel with sides, with multiple sides then round with a flat on the top, out of blued steel, gilded on the first third of flowers, of geometrical reasons and of a lyre; gilded thunder in full punched: "L C", "BOUTET", a third not legible and above, in a rhombus, probably: "N B"; it is signed, on the right side: "Boutet Directeur Artiste" and, on the left side: "Manufacture à Versailles"; vermeil sight surrounded by gold as well as the mouth, calibre 12 mm. Round-bodied lock, plain, signed: "MANUFAC. à Versailles"; swan-necked hammer, scroll basin, roller spring. Silver fittings, chased with flowers, foliage and flowering urns; green leather stock heel with punched and chased silver return with flowers and foliage. Walnut stock, checkered on the grip and on the butt and carved near the ramrod entrance with two doves beak against beak, topped by a laurel wreath, at the front of the trigger guard with an oval medallion on a trophy decorated with two hearts pierced by an arrow, and at the rear of the breech tail, oak branches in the center of which is a nest where a bird is brooding; Carved console decorated with a reclining boxwood dog, emblem of fidelity; cheek covered with green leather surrounded by a braid of silver trimmings. Wooden rod ending with an ivory tip. Length 113 cm. (Small lack of wood, on the edge, at the end of the shaft). Consulate period, early First Empire. Very good condition. POINÇONS : average guarantee of the departments : "88", Seine-inférieure, Rouen ; goldsmith : "J M" surmounted by a star, not identified. BOUTET Nicolas Noël, born in 1761 † in 1833, famous director of the manufacture of Versailles, of the year II to 1818; he worked mainly on the weapons of reward, the weapons of honor and the weapons of luxury, as well white as with fire; these reached a world fame, by their quality of execution and the originality of their models. He had in Paris a deposit of manufacture, 1236 street of the Law (street of Richelieu) in year XI, then, 87 street of Richelieu in 1807; one finds it, as private harquebusier, in 1823, 23 street of the Daughters Saint-Thomas, where it exerted until 1831. He had a son, Pierre Nicolas, born in 1786 † in 1816, which explains sometimes the inscription: "BOUTET and son". This rifle was presented with the exposure: When BONAPARTE became Napoleon, in Wasquehal, in 2004, n° 160.
