Manufacture royale d'Aubusson, end of the 18th century. Good condition, some restorations, doubled. H: 3,80-W: 3,51 m It is around 1770-1780 that the manufacture of rough carpets appears, technique borrowed from the tapestry. Since 1742 the manufacturers of Aubusson produce carpets in knotted stitch called velvety or soap and at the end of the 18th century combine this activity with the carpet ras present in all castles and palaces. The manufacturers Sallandrouze de Lamornaix and Rogier in particular promoted this branch which allowed Aubusson to go through many economic crises. Bibliography: E.
