Attribué à Claude HOUIN (1750-1817)
Portrait of King Louis XVI in front of the Tuileries Palace Watercolor and gouache on ivory. D: 5.8 cm A former student of Jean-Baptiste Greuze, Claude Houin is better known for his pastels than for his miniatures. He was Painter to the Count of Provence, a title he continued to hold until his death. In the field of portraiture in miniature, he was fond of three-quarter poses. We know of a box with medallion portraits of Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVII, dated 1793 (sale Surmont, Paris, Hôtel Drouot, 13 May 1912, n°50, reproduced).
