Selected fables, set in verse [...]. A Paris, Chez Desaint & Saillant, and Durand, 1755-1759. 4 large volumes in folio (333 x 487 mm), red morocco, triple gilt fillet framing the plates, fleuron in the corners, small coat of arms in the center, decorated spine with ribs, green morocco title pieces, gilt edges, embroidered blue silk endpapers (period binding). A frontispiece by OUDRY, decorated with a bust of La Fontaine, engraved by COCHIN, and 275 figures engraved after OUDRY's drawings, taken up by COCHIN and engraved by AUBERT, AVELINE, BAQUOY, CHEDEL, COCHIN, FESSART, GALLIMARD, LEBAS, LEMIRE, LEMPEREUR, MOITTE, OUVRIER, TARDIEU...; banners, lettering and culs-de-lampe. A second edition copy, the plate illustrating "Le Singe et le Léopard" (III, 111) being here with the inscription ("Le Léopard") on the sign, but EXAMPLE on GRAND PAPIER DE HOLLAN DE, ENRICHED FROM A PORTRAIT by Jean-Baptiste Oudry, after Largillière. A provincial eliure with some imperfections, restorations and small defects, including posterior arms; some slightly scorched leaves and some small brown spots; some restored tears, especially in the margins of some plates (two engraving frames touched, volume II, pp. 37 & 88); small ink stain on the outer edge of the very last leaves of volume I.
