Large 18th century Marseille earthenware vase and its lid, probably made by Robert. Baluster-shaped, with handles in the shape of goat heads holding a ring, resting on a high pedestal with a knot, the grip in the shape of a seed, with polychrome decoration on the face of a large stage with Levantine merchants in a lake landscape with an architectural element, Surrounded by a garland of gold leaf with mimosa motifs, frieze of gold wrought-ironwork on the edges, the heads of goats' heads decorated proper, two cracks restored, small crack in a handle, gnarled; And an important pedestal in carved and gilded wood in the Louis XV style, square rocaille shape resting on four scrolled feet, decorated with latticework and palmette motifs, one broken foot glued back together, small lacks. H: 60 cm - Total height: 82 cm Provenance: Château de Fonscolombe, Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade. Rare are the large vases in Marseille productions. We know different models of vases: the vase with the sirens of Bonnefoy of about 34.5 cm. in height (see the copy preserved in the collections of the Musée Borély and illustrated by Danielle Maternaty-Baldouy, Faïence et Porcelaine de Marseille, Marseille, 1997, p.287.), the vase given to Gaspard Robert with Salembier decoration, 29 cm. high (preserved in the collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Bordeaux, Inv. 4014), or the covered vase from the former Gilbert Lévy collection, 54 cm. high (cf. Répertoire de la Faïence Française, Paris, 1933-35, Vol. 2, Pl.83B). Note also a set of models of pot-pourris vases, including those produced by Bonnefoy of about 34 and 37 cm. (cf. the models from the former Mante and Zafiropoulo collections, illustrated in the Répertoire de la Faïence Française, Paris, 1933-35, Vol. 2, Pl.82A and Pl.83.A), by Robert of about 37.5 cm. in height (cf. the one kept in the collections of the Musée Borély and illustrated by Danielle Maternaty-Baldouy, Faïence et Porc
