Large 18th century Niderviller earthenware group.
Representing three characters illustrating the history of
Bélisaire on a high rectangular base with rocks, polychrome and gold decoration, the base in imitation of marble, the soldier and the staff restored, gritted.
H: 30.5 cm
This group was created by Paul-Louis Cyfflé from a drawing by Hubert-
François Bourguignon Gravelot, to illustrate the book on Bélisaire by Jean-François Marmontel, published in 1767. It was a great success and was also produced by Toul and Lunéville.
