EUGÈNE GRASSET-VEVER ''APPARITIONS''. Eugène Samuel Grasset(1845-1917) creator .Vever jeweler maker.astonishing brooch in 750-thousandths repoussé gold, translucent and opaque cloisonné enamel, ivory, punctuated with citrine cabochons and crowned roses. Signed. 1900 (slight lacks in the enamel and small scratches ) Size : 5 x 3 cm. Eugène Samuel Grasset, engraver, decorator, draftsman for Vever, was born in Switzerland in 1845 and died in France in 1917. He created ''Apparitions'' for Vever, a commission for the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900. This magnificent jewel is of a rare and astonishing power. The Vever company was founded in 1821 by Pierre Vever, who handed it over to his two sons Paul and Henri, who gave it a new impetus and oriented their models towards originality and modernism. Alongside the name of René Lalique, the name of the Vever brothers is inseparable from the jewellery renovation movement that preceded and followed the Universal Exhibition of 1900. Grasset composed for them troubling jewels, of an unexpected but powerful effect, which became museum pieces such as "Apparitions" when the fashion had definitively abandoned the modern style jewelry. This decorative jewel is part of a new line called "Artistic" next to a traditional production of high jewelry.
