Excavation sword, straight hilt with round section, three-ed - Lot 267
Excavation sword, straight hilt with round section, three-edged body knot, round quillons, piriform pommel; double-edged blade, with three grooves at the heel, then a single central one, broken tip; total length 97 cm, width of the hilt 15.5 cm, height of the hilt 16 cm, length of the blade 80.5 cm. Circa 1450, good condition. This sword is of the same type as those found at Castillon-la-Bataille (Gironde). This battle took place in 1453, opposing the English and the French; it was the last battle of the Hundred Years War. By its typology, this sword is probably English. An identical sword is part of the collections of the Musée de l'Armée (inventory number 21592; J).
