Rare percussion harpoon rifle for sperm whale or whale hunting, very strong, round, burnished steel barrel, three flats at thunder, bearing two English Birmingham proof marks and a number : "14" (proof marks from 1813), provided at the end with a target, length 51 cm, calibre 17.5 mm; breech block and single-block handle in bronze, external hammer, internal mechanism, Birmingham marks on the left side and another on the top representing a harpoon rifle on its base and numbered : "080", the handle is signed on the top: "CHAS OSBORNE & C° - LONDON & BIRMINGHAM"; the barrel is screwed, by its breech, directly on the breech block for the loading; brass trigger guard; strong stock in veined walnut pierced with a large hole of 23 mm diameter, for the passage of a cord; brown horn butt stock lined with a thick plate, like hard rubber (used rubber). Steel harpoon, diameter 17.5 mm, openworked along the whole length for the sliding of the wiregate carabiner, articulated steel tip, length 62.5 cm. Total length 105 cm. Period, Great Britain, circa 1877/1900. Good condition.
