*Rare patent of honor awarding a pair of drum sticks to the - Lot 156
*Rare patent of honor awarding a pair of drum sticks to the citizen Bonnières, drummer in the 74th ½ line brigade, in the case of 22 germinal year 8, during the blockade of Genoa, this soldier advanced into the enemy ranks and beat the charge in their camp where he spread terror, given in Paris on 21 messidor year nine of the French Republic, signed by the First Consul Bonaparte and Hugues Maret. This diploma has only the right part signed: "Bonaparte", it has been cut in two, the left part is handwritten and has been reconstituted according to the Archives. Wooden frame and gilded frieze. The whole 33 x 40 cm, the right part in parchment 33 x 19.5 cm. Consulate period. Good condition. There would have been only 45 pairs of honor sticks awarded out of about 2,000 arms of honor distributed. Louis BONNIÈRES, not BONNIER or BONNIÈRE as some documents indicate, born in Paris; drummer in the 47th ½ line brigade (this is a mistake, the numbers have been reversed, it should read 74th) ; at the affair of the 22nd germinal year VIII, he advanced in the enemy ranks and beat the charge in their camp where he spread alarm and terror; an order of the 21 messidor year IX granted him for this fact a pair of sticks of honor; embarked, until the end of 1804, he obtained his retirement until his return to France.
