Rare junior officer's sabre of the imperial guard's horseback hunters, guard with a branch in carved and gilded brass, mumps decorated with a Gorgon's head, quillon finished with a foliage fleuron, long tail cap with lion's head decorated with foliage at the lower part, wooden fuse covered with leather filigree silver; blade with a round back and lateral groove along its entire length, finished with a counter-edge, it is engraved, gilded and blued to a third, on one side with geometric figures and foliage, then with a cartouche bearing the inscription: "HORSE HUNTERS", and above it a sign with a laurel wreath, one: "N" in the middle, surmounted by a crowned eagle and, on the other side, signed on a gold background: "Duc fourbisseur de la Garde Impériale Rue St-honoré en face Celle de la loi n° 251 à Paris", engraved with foliage, with a cartouche bearing the inscription: "IMPERIAL GUARD" and, above it, the same eagle sign; fully gilded brass sheath with two belly bracelets carved with piaster falls and surrounded by cobwebs, between the two bracelets a hexagon carries an imperial eagle crowned in high relief, the lower part is carved with a fleuron and foliage, all the contours are carved with a frieze of foliage, cut iron sting, gold brass rings; length 102.5 cm. (Missing the small screw for fixing the clevis). First Empire period. Very good condition. This sword, more luxurious than the usual model, manufactured by DUC, perhaps for an officer of a higher rank, is extremely rare; it differs mainly in its richer decoration and its blade bearing the inscriptions: "HORSE HUNTERS" and "IMPERIAL GUARD".
