Staff officer's sword, possibly of the imperial guard's honour guards, hunter's model type XI, three-armed guard in gilded brass, decorated with nets and engraved with flowers, foliage and on the upper part of a spider's web, strong wooden rocket covered with filigree leather; beautiful round-backed blade and throat along the back, finished with a countertranchant, signed: "G I" on the heel, engraved, blued and two-thirds gilded, with scrolls, trophies of arms and two cartouches, one marked: "HONOUR AND PATRY", above a sign with a laurel wreath, one: "N" in the middle and surmounted by a crowned eagle, the other: "EMPIRE FRANÇAIS" surmounted by the same sign; iron sheath with two gilded brass belay bracelets, carved on the front of the staff symbol: a sword and a Roman helmet; length 104 cm. First Empire period. Very good condition. PROVENANCE: sale of the Guy KAUFMANN collection, Hôtel Drouot, on 22 November 2012, n° 27.
