Part of a Sèvres porcelain dessert service... - Lot 73 - Thierry de Maigret
Part of a Sèvres porcelain dessert service from the first half of the 19th century Hollow marks, printed marks in blue SEVRES between a star and 31 or 32 for 1831 or 1832 in a medallion, gilder's marks A. for Louis-Auguste Richard and on eight plates, additional marks enamelled in blue with Sèvres and numbers. With gold center decoration of a rosette and a frieze of ironwork on the fall, the wing with polychrome decoration of a flowering plant frieze standing out against a light blue background between two gold fillets, comprising: 4 "cup" compote makers (two with small crack), 1 "high footed compote maker", 2 "fruit bowls", 36 plates (one with crack, one with small chip); minor wear. Provenance: From the service "de dessert fond bleu pâle fleurettes coloriées" delivered as a present by order of monsieur l'Intendant Général dated 27 May 1837 to monsieur Alphonse de Coincy on 8 June 1837. In the registers of the workshops, we find a preparatory drawing dated 1831 for a "Service de table N°25 / fond bleu ciel, fleurettes coloriées / rosace en or" with the mention "Service de dessert par auguste Richard" (Pb7, liasse 1). This service appears then in the registers of the parts entered with the store of sale on June 1, 1832 (Vv2, fol.51v°); it is then composed of "75 plates with dessert, 8 compotiers cup, 4 compotiers with high foot, 2 fruit bowls upside down edge 2nd gd, 2 sugar campanians and trays, and 2 baskets calathine". Finally, it is delivered on order of the Intendant General (probably Pierre-Marie Taillepied de Bondy) to Mr. de Coincy on June 8, 1837; there are then only 72 plates and a "round basket Fragonard, rich gilding" is added; the set is estimated 2098 francs. For an unknown reason, some of the plates bear in addition to the traditional marks of decoration of the manufacture in a cartouche, marks painted in blue enamel which take again the name of Sèvres (differently written) and the figures 31 for 1831. Louis-Auguste-Victor Richard: listed as a gilder at the factory from 1811 to 1848. H of a fruit bowl: 13 cm D of a plate: 22,5 cm Correction: the two large bowls are most probably 19th century reorders in Paris porcelain. Saleroom notice: the two large footed bowls may most probably be 19th century Paris porcelain supplements.
