Rare court sword, shakudo hilt with chiseled motifs in high relief on a black burnished background, decorated with flowers, foliage, pagodas, the underside of the shells is gold damascened representing flowers and foliage, silver filigree spindle; diamond-shaped blade with flattened edge, engraved and gilded throughout, marked on the heel with mottos, on one side: "Don't shoot me without reason" and, on the other: "Don't hand me over without honor"; length 92.5 cm. (Without scabbard). Period, Japan for the guard, (Compagnie des Indes), Netherlands, second half of the 18th century. Good condition. PROVENANCE : former collection CORBIN, castle of C., then, by inheritance, collection BARJON. This sword has kept its label of the CORBIN collection, n° 141.
