Sword of honour or reward of an infantry... - Lot 106 - Thierry de Maigret
Sword of honour or reward of an infantry non-commissioned officer known as a "lighter", silver guard, stamped, with a branch decorated with nets, quillon ending in a gadrooned button, plain cap, held on the end of the tail by a silver nail, wooden fuse covered with basane, silver filigree; wide blade of the model of those of the national reward swords in blue steel and gilded to the third, ending in carp tongue, signed on the back: "Klingenthal"; leather sheath with two silver trimmings, punched, without attribution, shield-shaped button clevis; bouterolle finished with a button-shaped iron stinger; length 86 cm. Consulate period. Very good condition, close to new. This non-commissioned officer's lighter may be one of the first made in silver, as a national award, or as a prototype for lighters of honour, because it is mounted with a wide blade of the same type as those of the 400 braves and reward sabres. A lighter of the same type, but in gilded bronze, is known, also not attributed and signed by the Manufacture de Versailles. POINTS on the guard: - "B Y" in an oval, Denis BROUILLY, first controller; - "D" in a circle, AUDIGNED inspector; - the title and warranty stamps are not visible, they are under the rocket, as is often the case. On the cap and the two pads of the sheath: - "B Y" in an oval, Denis BROUILLY, first controller; - cock first title of the departments, 1798/1809; - big guarantee of the departments, old man's head and the number: "88", for the Seine-inférieure (Rouen); - silversmith "J.M" topped with a star.
