17th century Portuguese earthenware anthropomorphic ewer Representing a fantastic winged animal with a dog's head, the tail forming a handle, with blue monochrome decoration. (Small lack, small chips, chips). H : 24 cm Other examples of similar shapes or in the same spirit are preserved in European collections: in Lisbon at the National Museum of Antique Art and the Carmona and Costa Foundation, in London at the Victoria & Albert Museum, and in Germany at the Angewandte Kunst Museum in Frankfurt and the Kunst und Gewerbe Museum in Hamburg. A very similar example, kept in a private collection, is illustrated in the exhibition catalog organized by and at Galerie Mendès in Paris, Un siècle en blanc et bleu, November 24, 2016-January 30, 2017, Paris, pp.84-85; another very similar but less decorated example was sold at Christie's, Paris, on November 16, 2008, lot 36.
